Fireplace repair is core work for us — Texas Chimney Experts has been repairing DFW fireplaces of all types for years. Texas Chimney Experts handles this work across the Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex following NFPA 211 standards. Free inspection, written quote, no surprise fees.
What’s actually involved
Fireplace repair covers anything wrong with a fireplace’s structure, function, or safety. The most common categories: firebox damage (cracked refractory panels, broken brick, damaged metal liner), damper failures (won’t open, won’t close, broken handle), gas system issues (pilot, valve, ignition), and structural concerns (settling, leaning, separation from the home).
We work on all fireplace types: traditional masonry, prefabricated metal, gas insert, gas direct-vent, electric. Each has its own failure patterns and repair approaches; we don’t try to apply one approach to all.
Diagnosis-first is our principle. We don’t quote repair scope without inspecting the fireplace and confirming what’s actually wrong. Phone-quote repairs that get revised on arrival are how customers end up overpaying for the wrong work.
After diagnosis, written scope and quote before any work. You decide whether to proceed; we don’t pressure-sell on the same visit.
Why this matters in DFW specifically
DFW’s mix of housing eras means we see every type of fireplace failure. 1920s-1960s masonry fireplaces with foundation movement and aging refractory; 1990s prefab fireplaces hitting end of life; modern direct-vent gas units with electronic component failures. Each era and each type has distinct failure patterns that require type-specific expertise — we have it because we work on all of them.
Our process
- Inspection — Visual and (where appropriate) Level 2 inspection to identify the actual failure mode. Photos and findings documented.
- Diagnosis and quote — Written scope and price for the specific repair, before any work.
- Repair — Failed components replaced or repaired with proper materials and to manufacturer/code specifications.
- Final test and warranty — Operation tested through full cycle; warranty paperwork provided.

Frequently asked questions
Should I keep using my fireplace until you can come look?
Depends on the symptom. If you smell gas — turn off and don’t use until inspected. If the firebox has visible cracks reaching the wall framing — don’t burn until inspected. Cosmetic damage alone is generally safe to use cautiously.
How long does typical fireplace repair take?
Refractory work: 1-2 days. Damper work: typically same visit. Gas system work: 1-2 hours. Structural repair: 3-7 days. We provide an estimate at quote stage.
Will repair extend the life of my fireplace?
Often yes — but not always. For prefab fireplaces hitting 25-30 years, replacing failing components is a stop-gap; the unit will likely need full replacement within 3-7 years. For masonry fireplaces, repair extends life nearly indefinitely with maintenance.
Can I get parts for my old fireplace?
Generally yes — even for 30+ year old prefab units. We have parts supplier relationships across all major manufacturers. Some discontinued models require sourcing through salvage networks.
Is a damaged fireplace dangerous?
Depending on the damage, yes. Refractory cracks let heat reach surrounding framing. Damper failures can cause carbon monoxide buildup. Structural issues can cause smoke spillage. Repair before continued use is the right approach.
