Chimney Cap Replacement Cost in Dallas (2026)

TL;DR — Real Dallas Cap Replacement Pricing

Replacing a chimney cap in Dallas in 2026 runs $189 to $649, fully installed:

  • **$189-$-+** — single-flue stainless steel cap, standard 8×13 or 13×13 size, 1-story home
  • **$289-$-+** — multi-flue or oversized cap (chase-cover style), 304-grade stainless
  • **$449-$-+** — copper cap, custom-sized chase cover, or premium 316-grade stainless for coastal-spec corrosion resistance
  • **+$40-$-+** — two-story chase access surcharge

The Dallas median in 2025 was $329. We replace 9-12 caps a week across the 12-city service area; pricing is flat by ZIP.

When You Need a New Cap

  • The old cap is **missing** (storm-blown, theft is rare but happens)
  • **Mesh is rusted through** — animals, birds, debris are getting in
  • **Dented or crushed** by hail (DFW hailstorms in March-May regularly damage caps)
  • **Wrong size** for the flue — common when the original was a builder-grade cheap cap
  • **Galvanized that has rusted out** — galvanized caps last 8-12 years in DFW; stainless lasts 25-40

5 Cost Factors

1. Material grade

Galvanized — we don’t install these new (rust out). 304 stainless — standard, $189-$-+ single-flue. 316 stainless — better corrosion resistance, $269-$-+. Copper — premium aesthetic, $449-$-+.

2. Cap style — single-flue, multi-flue, full chase cover

Single-flue is a slip-on. Multi-flue covers two or more flues with one larger cap and is a fabricated piece. Full chase cover replaces the entire top sheet metal of a prefab chase — most expensive.

3. Size

8×8, 8×13, 13×13 are stocked. Anything custom (oversized rectangular, oddly-sized chase) requires a sheet-metal fabrication and adds $80-$-+.

4. Roof access and pitch

1-story → standard. 2-story with 9/12+ pitch → +$40-$-+.

5. Crown condition

If the crown underneath the cap is cracked, we don’t recommend installing a new cap on a failing crown. Crown repair is an additional line item ($349-$-+).

Tier-by-Tier Pricing

| Tier | Description | Dallas price |

|—|—|—|

| Standard single-flue stainless | 304 grade, 8×13 or 13×13, 1-story | $189-$-+ |

| Single-flue 316 stainless | Premium grade | $269-$-+ |

| Multi-flue stainless | 2 flues under one cap | $329-$-+ |

| Full chase cover (prefab) | Sheet-metal top replacement | $449-$-+ |

| Copper cap | Premium aesthetic, 1-story single flue | $449-$-+ |

| Two-story access | Adds to any tier | +$40-$-+ |

| Custom fabrication | Non-stock size | +$80-$-+ |

Common Add-Ons

  • **Crown sealant** — $89-$-+ if crown is hairline-cracked but salvageable
  • **Crown rebuild** — $349-$-+ if crown is fully failed
  • **Damper top-seal** — $329-$-+ (replaces both cap function and damper sealing in one)
  • **Animal removal first** — $89-$-+ if the cap is missing and something has nested
  • **Same-day install** — most caps installed in 60-90 minutes onsite

Material Comparison — Stainless vs. Copper vs. Galvanized

| Material | Lifespan in DFW | Looks | Price |

|—|—|—|—|

| Galvanized | 8-12 yrs | Industrial | NOT recommended |

| 304 stainless | 25-40 yrs | Bright silver | $$ |

| 316 stainless | 35-50 yrs | Bright silver | $$$ |

| Copper | 50+ yrs (patinas green) | Architectural | $$$$ |

For 95% of Dallas homes, 304 stainless is the right answer. Copper is a curb-appeal upgrade for premium properties (Highland Park, Preston Hollow, Bluffview).

DFW Hail Context

DFW averages 2-4 significant hail events annually. The April 2025 Plano/Frisco event damaged thousands of caps. We replaced 87 caps in the 30 days following that storm. Insurance often covers cap replacement under hail-damage claims; we provide insurance-formatted documentation.

What Our Quote Includes

  • Site visit and accurate measurement (no eyeballing)
  • Cap and any necessary fasteners or sealant
  • Installation labor
  • Removal and disposal of old cap
  • Photo before/after documentation
  • Written manufacturer warranty (10-25 years on stainless, lifetime on copper)
  • 5-year workmanship warranty from TCE

Watch Out For

  • **”$59 chimney cap” Facebook ads** — these are universally galvanized caps that rust out in 8 years and are installed by uninsured operators
  • **No-measurement quotes** — a real cap quote requires measuring the flue or chase opening
  • **Caulk-only repairs** — re-caulking a cap to the crown is not a long-term fix
