Clean ducts are the start of indoor air quality, not the finish. The air your family breathes is shaped by what you filter, what you ventilate, what you de-humidify, and what you sterilize — and those are engineered systems, not gadgets you clip on and hope. The honest version of IAQ starts with diagnosis. Particulate, VOC, CO2, and humidity are sampled, because you should know what's actually wrong before anyone sells you a solution. From there the system is built in layers, each chosen for a measured reason. Filtration: a 4-to-5-inch deep-pleat media cabinet cut into the return, or a true-HEPA bypass, or an electronic air cleaner — replacing the thin one-inch slot that protects the equipment but not your lungs, with the filter rack sealed so air can't bypass the media. Sterilization: a UV-C germicidal lamp at the coil to kill the mold and bacteria that grow on a wet evaporator, or an in-duct PCO/ionization purifier (REME-HALO, iWave) that pushes oxidizers into the living space to neutralize odors, VOCs, and pathogens at the source. Humidity: a ducted whole-home dehumidifier to pull the moisture that drives mold and discomfort, or a bypass humidifier for dry heating months. Ventilation: an ERV or HRV that brings balanced fresh air into a tight home while recovering the energy, or a controlled fresh-air intake with a motorized damper to meet code ventilation without a humidity penalty.
