Annual Chimney Sweep — Texas Chimney Experts
Your chimney is one of the few systems in your home that gets dirtier and more dangerous the more you use it. An annual chimney sweep is the single most effective way to catch problems early, prevent house fires, and make sure your fireplace runs safely all season long.
Why Annual Sweeps Matter
Creosote — the byproduct of burning wood — builds up on flue walls every time you light a fire. Left unchecked, it accumulates into a fuel-rich coating that can ignite at temperatures as low as 1,100°F. The CSIA and NFPA both recommend at least one sweep and inspection per year for any fireplace used regularly. A sweep isn’t just about cleanliness; it’s about catching cracked flue tiles, deteriorated mortar joints, animal nests, and damper failures before they turn into emergencies.
What’s Included in Our Sweep
Every annual sweep includes a CSIA Level 1 visual inspection, mechanical sweeping of the flue with rotary or rod-and-brush systems depending on the deposit type, a smoke-shelf cleaning, an inspection of the damper and firebox, and a written report with photos. We use containment systems inside the home so you never see a speck of soot. If we find issues that warrant attention, we’ll explain them clearly and quote any additional work in writing.
How Often Should You Sweep?
The recommendation is at least once per year for any fireplace burning more than one cord of wood per season. Heavy users — homeowners burning two or more cords — should consider twice-yearly sweeps. Gas fireplaces still need annual inspections even if they don’t generate creosote, because birds, debris, and venting components all need to be checked.
Why Our Annual Plan Saves Money
Customers on our annual maintenance plan get scheduled automatically — no more remembering, no more forgetting. They also get priority booking in the busy fall season, locked-in pricing, and small repairs caught before they become expensive. Most plan members find the savings on a single major repair exceed years of plan costs.
