What’s actually involved
To wildlife, a flue reads as a vertical tree cavity — which is exactly why animals move in. Squirrels and raccoons climb down to nest. Birds, chimney swifts in particular, build directly on the flue walls. Juveniles fall in and lack the grip to climb back out.
